Welcome to E-BND in Education

Newspapers in Education is a cooperative effort of newspapers working with local schools to encourage the use of the newspaper as a tool for instruction and to promote literacy. Under the program, the Belleville News-Democrat sponsors newspapers for teachers to use in their classrooms. NIE teachers also receive curriculum ideas, teaching materials, special supplements, newsletters, training opportunities and more.

To find out how to participate in the program, call Tara Webster at 618-239-2498 or twebster@bnd.com.

E-BND in Education is:

Educational. Your E-BND in Education subscription includes other free educational content, such as Online Lessons, Political Cartoons, and Educational Links.

Efficient. One order provides access to the Belleville News-Democrat seven days a week and to every E-BND in Education program for that semester.

Easy-to-Use. Search by keywords and project/print what's applicable to your lesson plans. Once student supplements and teacher guides are put online, they're available to you through the end of the current semester.

Edgy. E-BND reaches students where they live-in an increasingly digital world.

Red Ribbon Week: October 24-28

During Red Ribbon Week, October 24 - 28, the editorial staff of the News-Democrat will run stories concerning drug issues in our area. To accompany this, all students and teachers will have access to the teaching tool called “Drugs: Truth or Dare,” a 16-page study guide of relevant, thought-provoking, educational activities and discussion topics for pre-teens and teenagers.

Remembering 9/11: 10 Year Anniversary

The tragic events of September 11, 2001 changed the U.S., and the world, forever. For those who were old enough to watch those events unfold, that day and the aftermath of the attacks has left an indelible mark. For those too young to remember, the legacy of 9/11 shapes their lives as a central event in history.

Many schools wish to commemorate the 10th Anniversary of September 11, 2001, and find ways to honor and remember those who lost their lives. We offer this guide for students to learn about the events of this day.
